 MODAL VERBS

Modal auxiliary verbs are used to moderate the main verb, that is to enhance or restrict the verb to a certain context.
The most common modal auxiliaries in English are: 
Can Could May Should Might Will Must Would

Can : Ability / Possibility/ Inability / Impossibility/ Asking for permission /Request 
Example: Academic terminology can often be unfamiliar to the non experts.
Could: Asking for permission /Request/ Suggestion / Future possibility / Ability in the past 
 Example: We could download the booklet from its website.

May: Asking for permission/ probability
Example: You may find English verb tenses difficult.
 Should: Saying what’s right or correct Recommending action / Suggestion/ Uncertain prediction 
Example: You should not use your dictionary during the test.

Might: Present possibility/ Future possibility
Example: We might need a dictionary during the test.
Will: Instant decisions/ Offer / Promise/ Certain prediction 
Example: There will be many job opportunities by the time we get graduated.

Must: Necessity / Obligation/ deduction/ Prohibition
Example: If you want a good job, you must study harder. 
Would: Asking for permission/ Request / Hypothesis/ Invitation / Preferences 
Example: A technical dictionary would help us on develop a better paper.
